LUDHIANA: Music buffs of the city admired a distinct treat to their ears when a young band rolled out classic Bollywood retro numbers fusioned with an African instrument, 'Djembe', at a city pub on Rose Garden road, Sunday.
'Pump on and play it loud', as the concert was christened, gave an opportunity to young kids to exhibit their talent as they nailed Indian songs in their own western style.
Naureen Bindra, 15, a Model Town resident, was the drummer who played Djembe in the band while Sanya Taneja, 12, of Civil Lines, was the vocalist. They said the fact that they are the only girls in the city to play with a band delights them.
Nishtha Arora, 13, the girl guitarist in the band from Gurdev Nagar said she dreams to be a rock star some day as she is crazy about guitars. "It was great to see the crowd enjoying what we played,'' she said.
Pralav Sood, 7, another guitarist from Sarabha Nagar and Aakarshan Anand, 6, a Keyboard player from South City were the only boys in the band. The youngest members in the line up were excited to play before city residents and made the best of the opportunity by playing in sync with the unit.
Show director Albert John said the gig was organized to provide a platform to budding musicians to enhance their skills and confidence. "This show helped them to overcome stage fear and made them feel like a rock star, which is motivating and good for their music,'' said John.
